What to Expect From Media Recruitment Agencies

from:

Media recruitment agencies are great tools for those prospective job candidates who are just coming out of college with a degree in media, communications, journalism, or any other media-related field. There are many different types of media recruitment agencies, from specialized agencies to general media recruiters. These recruiters find jobs in all media fields and for every conceivable media source: radio, TV, newspapers, and magazines, as well as more abstract media companies like market research companies and media analysis businesses. The different jobs that these companies are offering are almost as diverse as the companies themselves. Media recruitment agencies are great options for media companies and potential media moguls alike.

Radio producers, newspaper and magazine publishers, TV executives, and market research and development firms all rely heavily on media recruitment agencies like the ones that are springing up all of the US. While they have been popular in the UK for a while, specialized recruiters who place people in media careers are just now rising to power here. Media companies are often searching for good candidates for jobs like media space buying, advertising and promotions, market analysis and research, and print production and design.

Some of the jobs that media recruitment agencies place are things like new and digital media jobs; this can entail anything from photography to digitally creating or enhancing pictures. Other jobs, like event promoters, will often work with their media company to create a promotions campaign for a product or service launch. Media recruiters also work closely with the publishing sector, putting appropriate candidates in editorial careers at newspapers and magazines. One of the growing media jobs is media sales; this type of job requires the candidate to sell airtime for commercials during radio broadcasts. With the advent of satellite radio, these jobs have become even more challenging, often requiring a more experienced media sales candidate. Finally, market researchers will address the trends in media to tailor a company's marketing and advertising campaigns to fit.

Many of these jobs are highly particular, and the right candidate needs to have very specific skills sets and educational or experiential backgrounds to appropriately fulfill the positions. This is why many media recruitment agencies choose to be highly specialized, dealing only with potential candidates in one field of the media job market and in one geographic location. As with other specialized recruiters, specialized media recruitment agencies can better serve both the companies and the candidates by using their exhaustive knowledge of the media job market and available candidates in a given area.
