They can be employed in the business or corporation or they can also be self employed and hired by businesses and corporations on contract. The human resource specialist that is self employed can charge their own fee as well as decide which businesses they wish to work for or do not. On the other hand they are also responsible for advertising and running their business. On top of the behind the scenes function of the business a person who is self employed is also responsible for the day to day work when they are hired as well as working towards getting hired when they are without work.

Regardless of whether the human resources specialist are self employed or permanently employed in a business their jobs are very demanding. Especially when they are writing policies and implementing them, they have to be written in a manner that is correct and easily understandable by the staff that is to follow the guidelines. It is also crucial that they posses the ability to communicate effectively with staff, managers, and employers. They are often the bridge between staff and employers and therefore should be able to communicate effectively with both and have strong co-worker relationships.

Employers will require that their human resources specialist have at least a bachelor’s degree in business, administration, industrial relations, commerce, or psychology. It is especially important to have strong credentials and experience when self employed in this field in order to establish a strong reputation within the business community. Employers may also require that the human resources specialist have previous work experience in the field of administration or human resources. It is highly important for the human resources specialist to understand the business thoroughly because they will be developing policies and guidelines for that business.
